Online Texas Hold'em: Timing Your Sessions

An important question to ask yourself when playing online poker is how long should your sessions be? Live poker room play often has automatic time restrictions placed on it. Sooner or later, you have to go home. When you're playing online however, you already are home, so you could conceivably play indefinitely. How do you know when to end a session?

How Has Your Online Poker Session Been Going?

This does not necessarily mean are you winning or losing, but rather are you continuing to play correctly? If you just might the right play and took a bad beat, subsequent play may suffer. Ask yourself if you are able to look past your emotions and continue to play solid poker. If not, it may be time to take a break.

How Is Your Online Poker Game Shaping Up?

When you sat at the poker table, there may have been many weak, inexperienced players, but slowly, perhaps without you even noticing, these players went broke or quit and suddenly the table is much tougher. If you suddenly realize that you are facing stronger opposition, it may be a good time to get up.

How Are You Feeling?

If you've been playing online poker for twelve hours straight and you're getting tired, consider taking a break. If you are still able to play at the top of your game, are still winning and still confident about your play, it's okay to keep going, but if there's any chance that fatigue is handicapping you, step away from the computer and get some rest. The game will still be there for you in the morning.
