Nothing to do against a maniac

I was playing in a cash game at a friend's house last weekend. To my left is Bob, the most loose aggressive maniac I think you'll find--he's a true gambler, who's put down hundreds of dollars on a blackjack hand on more than one occasion.

Top 3 Beginner Rooms

Our measly $10 buy in is nothing to him, so he typically raises most of his hands preflop, bets and raises every flop with anything from one overcard to a gutshot straight draw. And true to someone who is always gambling on hands he shouldn't, he has a reputation for sucking out.

The hands are dealt and I'm under the gun and I look down to see pocket Queens. I raise to 4x the BB and he calls, meaning he has any two cards, as usual. There's one, maybe two other callers. Flop is Q64 rainbow, a dream flop for me, and I already know how this hand is going to play out. I'm going to check, Bob will overbet his nothing, I'm going to go all in, he's going to call (believe me he will call all-ins with nothing but maybe one or two overcards if he's already put money into the pot), and he's going to give me all his money.

I check. Bob fires $4 into about a $3.00 pot. It gets folded to me. I go all in, and as I expected Bob says "what the heck, let's gamble" and calls. He turns over his cards, and what does he have? JTo. He called my all in with Jack-Ten offsuit on a Q64 board. Oh well, that's Bob for you. I'm glad I get to punish the maniac this time around. I get ready to collect my chips.

The turn card is a King. I don't know why, but I'm starting to have this sinking feeling. I realize why when the 9 comes up on the river and Bob completes his backdoor straight to beat my set of Queens. Bob had a 4.85% chance of winning on the flop and true to form, he pulled it off. I smile, give him a fist bump, and say "nice hand" as he rakes in my stack. How can you get mad at a guy who will call your all in when you have a 95% advantage? I'm just looking forward to my next opportunity to get him in a pot with those odds.

P.S. your site is awesome!

Answer:

Thanks for a true bad beat story Kevin. Keep putting the money in there when you have the best of it, the "long run" is your friend.

Good Luck!
