High-Carding for the Button
Question:
Ok, here is a question that I can't seem to find an answer to: What is the strength of suites in poker in regard to dealing? I know that no suite is ranked higher during game play. What I mean is, during a home game when you are deciding who deals first you deal out cards to everyone. Let's say two people had aces dealt to them. The proper way to determine the dealer is to give it to the person who had the highest ace, right? I have seen this done at casinos during tournaments.

Can you tell me the proper suite order for dealing a texas hold em tournament? Thanks a lot.

Answer:
Hi Mark
I'm makes me happy that you didn't ask which suit is highest during game play - just as you said - all suits are equal when playing. However, when you are high-carding for the button, you might have to separate two or more cards of the same rank. The proper suit order is:
- Spades
- Hearts
- Diamonds
- Clubs
As you can see, it goes in alphabetical order from weakest to strongest.
