A question about playing the board and split pots. This is the scenario:Top 3 Beginner Rooms
The board reads Ace, six, six, seven, seven.
No flush possibilities.
Two people in the hand.
Several bets have taken place.
First person checks.
Second person checks.
Second person turns over king, queen.
First person throws in his cards.
Question
Since the second person cannot beat the board, isn't it a split pot? The first person doesn't have to show his cards if he can't beat the board, does he?

If none of the players have anything to improve the board, then it is a split pot, and that would seem to be the case here. However, by mucking your hand you always forego your chances of winning regardless if the pot actually is a split or not.
