Expectations for the 2008 WSOP

It seems like the dust just cleared on the 2007 World Series of Poker, but hard as it is to believe, the 2008 WSOP is right around the corner. The first event starts at the end of May, and the main event will begin on the third of July. You can bet that ESPN's coverage will begin soon after, so that we can all tune in to the action. When we do, here are some things to watch for at the 2008 WSOP.

Phil Hellmuth Goes for Bracelet Number 12

Phil Hellmuth seems to think that every poker tournament is all about him, but if there was ever one that really is, it's the WSOP. Hellmuth's push to be the all-time bracelet leader was an exciting one. He reached the magic number of 10, only to tie with both of his rivals, Doyle Brunson and Johnny Chan, in short order.

Last year, Hellmuth finally broke through with number 11, leaving him alone at the top, after first falling short in a heads-up battle in an early event. Get ready for Hellmuth to pull out all the stops and separate himself from the runners-up.

Daniel Negreanu Gets Some T.V. Time

Daniel Negreanu loves the camera, and the camera loves him. Expect to see plenty of tables that have this brash Canadian in the mix, and any final table that he should find himself in to receive full ESPN coverage.

Chad and McEachern

The team of hapless jokester Norman Chad and straight man Lon McEachern has worked for ESPN for years and there's no reason to expect it to stop now. Look forward to more colorful commentary at the World Series in 2008.
