Dealer forgets to burn
Top 3 Beginner Rooms
OK, here is my question. In a home game this afternoon, we were down to final two players. Chip leader had Q 10 and the 'other guy' had K K (great final hand, huh?). Anyway, the flop came up Q J 7. Chip leader puts 'other guy' all in, and 'other guy' gladly follows. In all the excitement, the dealer, who was not involved in the hand, forgot to burn a card before the turn. So the Turn comes up a 10. 'Other guy' points out that dealer forgot to burn a card while chip leader says once the card is on the board, it should stay. Some of us thought since the dealer wasn't involved and it was an honest mistake that the 10 should come off the board. Others just thought it should be like a misdeal and they chop the pot. Is there an 'official' answer?
Hi,
Tradition of burning cards goes back to times where poker was game played mainly by outlaws and full of cheating. It makes harder for dealer to 'cheat' by seting up 'good stack'. It is still used mainly because it's traditional value.
If dealer forgets to burn the card before the community cards are dealt, there is nothing much to do. You cannot put cards back because everyone at the table will know those cards are live. The correct thing would be to burn an extra card afterwards which will correct the deck.
So based on the official rules I would say that the 10 is still valid and chip leader won this hand.
