Complex Question Dealing with All Ins

I have a very complex question dealing with all ins. Occasionally I'll play with friends no-limit hold em. Sometimes there will be more than one person who goes all-in... creating 2 or 3 or simetimes 4 pots.

I've playing online a lot also. The problem is that I'm not sure who gets what pot under what circumstances.

For example: sometimes when I played online an I went all-in, I'd win the side pot alone, other times, I'd win all pots. I need to know how to determine who gets which pot after the showdown. I want to hold another game soon, but I want to make sure I'm playing right. If you could help me out, I'd really appreciate it.

I'm no expert, but I understand the game for the most part... minus the all-in rules, hehe.

Thanks Everso Much

Answer:

Hello Jordan,

The simple rule for all-in situations is that you can't win more than you put into the pot, from each of the other players. If you, for example, have $100 and move all-in against three other players, the max you can get back is $400.

So, which of the pots you can win depends on your chip stack before the hand. The biggest stack can always win all the pots, and the smallest stack can only win the main pot.

This is explained further here.
