Combining tables in multi table tournaments

Hello,
I have a question about rules for multiple tables with hold em no limit.

Top 3 Beginner Rooms

We are going to have 12 + players show up for poker night and I know you only want 9 to a table max and I need to know how the rules are for starting two tables and when do we join the two tables and what the official rules are so I don't seem like I am making them up.  We usually cut off buy ins at a certain time as well.

Thanks,
Phillip

Hi Phillip,
thanks for your question.

When you join the tables depends, there are no official rules on this matter.
The important thing is to decide how many players that should be left when you make one final table - I would suggest nine but this is something you have to decide.

An important thing when organizing multi-table tournaments is to even out the tables when players are knocked out. Say you have eight players left at one table and nine at the other. If a player is knocked out at the eight player table you'll have only seven left, but nine at the other table. When this happens you need to move one player to the table with seven players to even out the tables.

There are different systems to determine which player you should move. One option is to move the player with the smallest stack and another is to move the player that is going to post the next big blind. If you do the latter you let this player start on the big blind on the other player when he's moved. What player you choose to move is not that important, the important thing is to decide how the move should be done before the tournament starts.

Hope this answers your question.
Good luck with the tournament!
