Cake Poker is not only a poker room but also a poker network called the Cake Network, which includes lots of other operators such as Victory Poker and many more.
Cake Poker itself is the core of this hub and the biggest individual poker room. With cash-game traffic at around 2,000 during peak hours, it is not a very large network – it’s bigger than Merge, Pacific Poker and Bodog, but not nearly as big as PokerStars or Full Tilt.
Lots of Holdem Action
Most of the traffic is located at the holdem and Omaha tables, with an occasional Omaha Hi-Lo table active as well. There’s a full range of cash game levels available – all the way up to $500/$1,000 no-limit holdem, but the highest stakes are rarely populated. Instead, most of the action is usually found at levels up to $3/$6 NL.
Software: Ugly but Full-Featured
Cake Poker has gone for a “photo-realistic” look with their software. The result is mildly impressive, but the poker client works well on the whole and offers all the standard features. You can collect statistics, take notes on your opponents and use a 4-color deck.
There’s also an option to resize the tables to free up space for more tables or get a better view of the action. Unfortunately this is not very well implemented, as the tables get pixilated when enlarged.
Fantastic Promotions
But on to the good parts; since its inception in 2005, Cake has gained a well-earned reputation for hosting some of the softest games on the web. There’s usually a lot of fish all the way from the micro stakes up to around $1/$2 no-limit holdem.
Another great aspect is the number of big promotions. For example, Cake has an ongoing Player Points race where they hand out an incredible $150k to be shared between the most active players. You can boost your bankroll by up to $1,500 just from this.
In addition, the player points turn into “Gold Chips,” which can be converted into cash and merchandise in the CakeShop.
