Top Set Loses To 72
I sent you guys a couple bad beat stories yesterday, but this one takes #1, and the first serious crushing blow I've suffered since I started playing poker in Jan of 2004.

I was playing last night online at Pacific Poker, $200 NL, blinds $1 and $2. When the bet comes around to me, I make the initial raise to $15 with JJ. I get two callers and the flop comes down 10s Jh 7c. I see the set, and bet out about $30; not wanting to totally overbet the pot, but get some cash in there. The first caller folds immediately and the last guy calls so we're heads up. The turn comes out a 5h. I fire $75 into a $110 pot. He calls me. I think then he's on a serious draw but with virtually no chance of winning the hand since I have not only a set, but top set, and he's going to play it out no matter what. Turn card comes a 4h. I bet out $30 because I'm worried this fool has hit a flush and want to see what he does. Sure enough, he goes all in for $137. I couldn't do much but call. I almost went into convulsions when he not only turns over a flush, but completed it with a 7 2 of hearts. As I'm trying to keep myself from going into shock and realizing I just lost $235 to this guy's garbage that had almost no chance of winning in the first place and calling my substantial $15 raise preflop on top of that, I look at the chat box and see him casually say "Gotta love runner runner flush" After tearing into him for about 15 minutes against my better judgement along with a couple other good players at the table, I ran the hand through the bad beat meter I found on a website, I got a score of 2921 which is off the visual scale, and waaaaaaaaaay beyond the 300 to 350 score I've gotten in the past when I've checked out other hands I thought might have been bad beats.
On a side note, I've read a lot of poker literature, logged several hours online and in B&M casinos in the last 9 months, and watched various DVDs and hours of articles online, and I wanted to say the things you have to say on your website are great, straight forward, very interesting and informative, and most all of it makes perfect sense. Keep up the good work and thanks for the tips.
