At what point should I have stopped betting?
Question
Hi there,
I have a question regarding this hand I played a couple days ago, I'm not sure if I was too reckless.

Anyway, we were playing 2/4 NL,its the last hand of the night and I've been dealt Kd2d in the big blind. Everyone calls the big-blind and the flop comes 8cKc8d. The small blind who by the way is a total fish and who was on mega-tilt having lost about 9 buy-ins bets around half the pot, I instantly call cos I knew he would have went it with just about anything at that point. My friend after me calls as well and everyone else folds. Turn brings a Jd, now small blind goes all-in with the shortest stack. I consider for a while knowing that to have me beat he would have to have the 8 or a KJ at least.
I'm not too concerned about him but the guy who acts after me, I know him well and he's a fairly tight player and since it was the final hand of the night we all agreed to play pre-flop hence he could be playing a weaker hand than he normally would. So I have 2 pair (KK88, J kicker) with the possibility of a flush draw. I'm hoping if i call the small blind's all-in that he would fold.
Well I do call and after what seems like eternity the last guy calls. At this point I think I'm in some sort of trouble and the river doesn't bring any diamonds. I then proceed to bet the remainder of my stack in an attempt to scare him off. He's thinking and starts off a rant about me possibly having KK or Q8. Finally he calls my all-in and flips over to reveal 7h8s.small blind surprisingly shows Kh10h.
Anyway, he won the biggest pot of the night, and I was pretty upset. So do you think I was right in the way I played that hand or if not at what point should I have stopped betting?
Cheers,
James
Answer:
Hi James,
I think your call on the flop is good and that is just something you have to do in this situation. The fact that a player calls behind you should set of plenty of alarm bells, though. It would be helpful to know exactly how much the bets where but I'll try to give you some advice:
Since you picked up the flush draw on the turn the call is probably correct. It all depends on the stack sizes and how big the all-in was, though. What I really don't like is your all-in on the river. You won't get called by a worse hand, and there is really no point in going all-in here. You probably wont scare him of any kind of hand that are better than yours, and will only get called by better ones. Also, the small blind is already all-in and if he has you beat you are actually betting to win nothing at all.
