Another side pot situation

In a Texas hold em tournament, small blind is $1000 and big blind is $2000. After the flop the player to the left of the dealer goes all in but is short of the blind. He has $1200. The question is, does the next player have to meet the bet or do they have to meet the blind?

Hi Steve,

This is another case of side pot situation.

If player (lets call him "Player A") doesn't have a full bet amount, he can go all in with the chips he has. All other chips on the tabel will form a side pot. So next player (lets call him "the Next Player") will have to match the BB amount if he wants to play the hand.

In this case, SB posts 1000, BB 2000 and player A 1200. Next Player will have to bet minimum 2000 to stay in the hand. Main pot will be 1200 x number of players in hand and the side pot will be the rest of the chips. Lets assume that Next Player will call 2000 and also SB calls adding 1000 to the pot. The main pot will be then $1200 x 4 = $4800 and side pot will be $800 x 3 = $2400.

After that, the game and betting goes on as usual but all the future bets will go to side pot. The winner side pot is decided between SB, BB and Next Player, the winner of main pot is decided by SB, BB, Next Player and Player A.

I hope that helps,

Marcus
