Odds Calculations With Regards To Other Hands

Question: I was trying to figure out how to calculate odds and i pretty much understand except for one part. How do you consider your outs when your playing with 3 other people. If you are dealt pocket jacks , you may have trouble calculating because it is possible somebody else may have your jack. When you are calculating during a game, how do you get past this possibility?

Another person just recently sent in a question or comment about this same subject. A summary of what I said to them is as follows:

1. Granted, if all your cards are in other peoples' hands or have already been folded, the true odds of you making your hand is zero. And there is no way to know this unless you could see their cards.

2. Because we can't see their cards, we have to go on what we do know. The chances of your opponent being dealt two certain cards are the same odds as the person being dealt any other two cards. So it is just as likely they were dealt 72 as it was AK. Because of this, we consider all unseen cards to be of the same value even if that isn't accurate all the time.
